Article 30(1) of Constitution of India gives a fundamental right to religious and linguistic minorities to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice. Linguistic and Religious Minoritis are defined in relation to the State. Following are the Religious Minorities viz. ;
- Buddhism
- Christianity
- Jainism
- Sikhism
- Islam
- Zoroastriansm (Parsi)
Linguistic Minority is defined with reference to the Majority language of that State. In Maharashtra any person whose mother tongue is not Marathi, is considered as belonging to Linguistic Minorities. The rights and duties of educational institutions set up by religious and linguistic minorities are defined by Constitutional provisions, Government Orders issued from time to time, Acts of Parliament and State Legislature and Judicial pronouncements. Minority Status cannot be surrendered. This Portal provides a One Window Gateway to the educational instituions established and administered by Religious and Linguistic Minorities in Maharashtra.
